2009 Outlook: We look to be improved over last year. We have an exceptional Senior class in terms of work ethic, character, and leadership. Our Freshman team has not lost a game in the last two years, and those two classes are our current Juniors and Sophomores. We have had a tremendous off-season of working out, which has resulted in us claiming the 2009 All-Classification State Weightlifting Title. Our team scored a state record 60 points. This group was comprised solely of football players, and we look for the results of this hard work to start showing on the football field.

The Valdosta High football team hopes to put a dissapointing 2008 season in the rear view mirror.
Head Coach Rick Tomberlin and his Wildcats only won two games in region play last year.
Tomberlin is hoping that a speedy team returning 11 starters can produce better results this season.
Region 1 AAAAA is very challenging but coach says the goal for his Wildcats is to come out on top.
"We really feel like we ought to be a team that's in the hunt for a region championship and in the hunt for the playoffs. I mean to be satisfied I would say win a region championship. That's a tough road. There's great teams in our region but that's our goal" said Tomberlin.
Valdosta's offense will return 6 players with starting experience including tight end Jay Rome.
Reggie McQueen will handle duties at runningback while junior Doshay Marts returns to the field at quarterback after back surgery last year.
5 starters return to a defense that should be led by linebacker Jermaine Holmes, defensive end Marcus Davis, and safety Dontavious Sapp.
Coach Tomberlin says his team's speed should give the Wildcats a shot at winning a region title.
"Well I think we're quick. We're not very big but we're quick as Cats if you don't mind the pun and I think they're strong physically. Very, very, very strong" said Tomberlin.
