Patriots go for first place against Cairo

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Westover High knows the road to the region 1-AAA football title runs right through Cairo.

The Patriots have their seat belts buckled ready to make the trip.

The Westover-Cairo game at Hugh Mills Stadium is our game of the week.

The Patriots can pull into a tie with the Syrupmakers with a win tonight.

Cairo is the bellwether in the region with three titles in the last four seasons.

Westover won the city of Albany title last year but those three victories were the only ones the Patriots had in 2010.

Coach Jones says the next step is to be able to play with their region rivals outside the city limits.

Octavia Jones said. "Letting the guys know the importance of being successful against teams that our outside the city of Albany and within our region. Everybody knows that the region championship always runs through Cairo."

Cairo plays Westover at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hugh Mills Stadium.
