Plans for a new Broad Avenue Bridge in downtown Albany just cleared a major hurdle.

An environmental impact study that could have delayed the project won't hold it up.

Wednesday morning, Department of Transportation crews were at the site conducting pre-construction surveys.

With final approval of the environmental study, engineers can move to the final plan review.

Bids for the work are scheduled to go out in December.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring.

The nearly 90-year old bridge was closed in February 2009 because of severe deterioration to the bridge's footings.
