THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Ten million Americans suffer from osteoporosis. A fairly new procedure is offering relief to some of them.
81 year old Maurice Chandler knows the problems associated with the illness. Osteoporosis and arthritis led to a fracture in Chandler's spine.
Archbold neurosurgeon Dr. Gerald Kadis recommended the minimally invasive Balloon Kyphoplasty. "Historically be treated with bed rest, a back brace, and the pain just lingers on for months and months and months. The beauty of the Kyphoplasty is we can literally shut the pain off instantaneously and the patients can get more functional quickly," said Dr. Kadis.
Kadis says they have done about 100 Kyphoplasty procedures and have not had a single complication.
