SHELLMAN, GA (WALB) - Randolph-Southern has peaked at the right time of the season.
The Lady Patriots play Thomas Jefferson in a best two out of three series for the GISA Class A state softball championship Thursday in Dublin.
Randolph-Southern coach Rand Ragan says his young squad basically flipped the on switch when the state tournament started
Another thing that has helped has been the leadership of the lone senior on a team of five sophomores and three freshmen.
Catcher Brittany Holbrook has sent text messages after each game this season telling them they are good enough to win a state title.
Brittany Holbrook said. "I am the only senior. So, I figured I had better step up and do my job since it was my last year. I think they believe in me and I think they look up to me for doing it."
Sophomore shortstop Braylie Blanton said. "It means a lot (reaching the finals). Especially to our only senior Brittany Holbrook.
Holbrook says the Lady Patriots want to send their senior out a state champion.
Randolph-Southern has never won a GISA title in softball.
Randolph-Southern defeated Thomas Jefferson on the run rule in a game in the Final Four last weekend in Dublin.
The best 2 out of 3 series starts at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Southern Pines Park in Dublin.
The GISA AAA and AA state finals will be played Saturday.
The Class A series was moved up to accommodate a member of the Thomas Jefferson coaching staff who is getting married Saturday.
