VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The top farmers in the southeast were honored in Valdosta.

The nine finalists for the Swisher Sweets/Sunbelt Ag Expo southeastern farmer of the year were the guests of honor at a banquet at the Rainwater Conference Center.

Berrien County's Carlos Vickers is the Georgia Farmer of the year.

He's worked as a diversified crop and livestock farmer for more than 30-years.

He brought his wife Judy with him.

He says it's humbling to be a finalist for the award.

"I just hope I represent them well," said Vickers. "I would just like to congratulate all the other state winners too and all of those who entered into this state. They're all winners to me because I know what they go through each day trying to run a farm."

The winner will be announced at a luncheon Tuesday at the Sunbelt Ag Expo and will take home $15,000 plus prizes from some of the sponsors of the competition.
