Albany Municipal Court in need of help

Albany is advertising for a new city solicitor as the city's magistrate court limps along missing a full-time judge and prosecutor.

The Georgia Supreme Court suspended the law license of city solicitor Tony Jones for 18-months for failing to represent a client of his private practice properly.

He resigned as solicitor.

Lawyers from the City Attorney's office are filling in as the city looks for a replacement.

Attorney Phil Cannon continues to fill in for Judge Willie Weaver.

Weaver was suspended more than 4-months ago after he was charged with aggravated assault against his wife.

He's currently undergoing counseling as part of a deal to have the charge dropped.

The city commission has not decided when or if they'll reinstate him.
