    The rate increased because of seasonal factors, such as the summer job loss among non-contract school workers and temporary layoffs, primarily in manufacturing. There were 60,500 jobs in Albany in June, down by 300, or 0.5 percent, from 60,800 in May. Most of the loss came in state government and the service-related industries.More >>

ALBANY (WALB) - Just hours after an Albany convenience store was robbed at gunpoint, two suspects are in jail charged with the crime.

Officers were called to K&S Food Center on Newton Road just before 6 o'clock Sunday evening. Two men came in the store with T-shirts covering their faces and pulled guns on the store clerks demanding money,

Albany Police officers patrolling the area near Monroe Street and Holloway Avenue spotted two men matching the description of the suspects.

17-year-olds Bontavious Wilcox and Justin Thomas were found in possession of a gun and the money stolen from the business.

The two are being held in the Dougherty County Jail facing armed robbery and firearms charges.
