The Albany State Rams came out like a team on the mission and it was the defense that came up with some key late plays to hold off Morehouse 25-15. Morehouse came into the game as one of the hottest teams in the SIAC and was leading the East division at 5-1.
Albany State struck first on a short run by Nathan Hoyte on the right side. However, the extra point was blocked and returned for the 2 point conversion by the Maroon Tigers. In the 2nd quarter, wide receiver Octavius Staton got behind the Morehouse secondary and quarterback Stanley Jennings found him for another Rams touchdown. The extra point was blocked leaving ASU with the 12-2. Later on, after Jennings bought some time in the pocket, he lofted a rainbow that landed in the hands of a falling Ronnie Tubbs for the Rams' 3rd touchdown that gave Albany State the 19-2 lead going into halftime.
Late in the 2nd half, an interception by Bruce Ryles and a Brandon Hamilton field goal helped seal the deal. Rams won it 25-15 and improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The win also moves ASU to the top spot in the East division. The Rams will play Clark Atlanta in the "Rumble in the Swamp Classic" in Waycross on the 22nd. Kickoff is at 3:00 p.m.
