The number of Americans with heart disease is slowly dropping and advocates here in Albany want to keep that trend going.

The American Heart Association will hold its annual heart walk in Albany Saturday.

Baseball great and Albany native Ray Knight is emceeing the walk and he says heart disease has hit him and his family.

"I, in 1999, actually had a complete blockage and eventually didn't have a heart attack, but had open heart surgery," Knight said. "It's ironic as we talk. Just two days ago, a nephew of mine had a blood clot that caused heart problems.

Last year, six percent of Americans had some form of heart disease, which is down almost one percent from 2006.

Wednesday's heart walk starts at 11 A.M. at the Veranda on Meredyth drive.
