Valdosta pulls off Winnersville comeback

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -  The Winnersville Classic has seen its share of exciting finishes.The Wildcats is the WALB Team of the Week. Colony Bank representative Lewie Flythe Jr. presented head coach Rance Gillespie and his players with the plaque and football on Tuesday.

It is hard to top the rally Valdosta High pulled off Friday night at Martin Stadium.

 The Wildcats snapped a seven game losing streak to the Vikings by overcoming a 10 point deficit with under a minute left to play.

The game was not only a huge region 1-AAAAA win but also a game both coaches and players will remember for the rest of their lives.

 

Head coach Rance Gillespie said. "Probably the most exciting football game that I've ever had the pleasure to be apart of. it's a great rivalry, great atmosphere and obviously a great football game as well."

 

Valdosta High tight end Demetrius Melvin said. "I was excited man. I couldn't believe it. That's like the best thing that's happened so far in my life. Its like the best game I've played."

Wildcats are back on the road Friday at Coffee High.

Game time is 8:00 p.m. at Jardine Stadium.
