VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Voters in Valdosta are getting to know candidates for local office a little better right now.

The Chamber of Commerce is hosting a meet and greet candidates on the November 8th ballot right now.

Mayoral candidates Brooks Bivins, John Gayle, and Gary Michew planned to be there.

We've interviewed Gayle and Minchew before. We caught up with Bivins who works at the paper mill in Clyattville and is an associate pastor at St. John A.M.E. Church.

He says the city of Valdosta should have public transportation.

"I think it's time for it," said Bivins. "Those are probably my most passionate things is opening the government back up to the people and transportation because transportation will also bring jobs around here."

Voters can talk to the candidates at the meet and greet at the Rainwater Conference Center until seven Tuesday.

Candidates running in the Lake Park and Valdosta City Council races will also be there.
