"Never take your opponent lightly." That's one of the most used statements in the world of sports and the Albany State Rams needed to keep that in mind on the road against last place Lane College. The Rams, however, got stunned. The Lane College Dragons got its first conference win since 2008, a 26-24 victory over the mighty Rams. This is a Lane team that went 0-10 in 2010, 0-10 in 2009 but pulled of the upset in Jackson,Tennessee.
ASU quarterback Stanley Jennings had a rough night. He threw for just 8-20, 160 yards passing, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. The Rams' defense once again struggled giving up 143 rushing yards. ASU had a 21-20 lead at half time but gave up a touchdown in the 3rd quarter and managed only a field goal in the 4th. Rams fall to 4-2 and 2-1 in the conference. ASU hosts SIAC leading Morehouse next Saturday at the Coliseum.
Meanwhile, Valdosta State wasn't having any of that upset stuff and blew out Ouachita Baptist 40-13 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
Transfer quarterback Cayden Cochran threw for 424 yards and 4 touchdowns in relief of starter Austen Roberts. His 424 yards tied the 9th highest in school history. Wide receiver Seantavious Jones ended with 6 catches for 204 yards and 3 touchdowns. Blazers improve to 5-1 and open up Gulf South Conference play at home against West Alabama on Saturday.
