VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Many games can claim to be a great rivalry.
But really a few games are in a class all by themselves.
Rivalries are one of the things that make the game of football so special.
One of those games is the Winnersville Classic.
Valdosta and Lowndes meet tonight in Martin Stadium.
This game not only settles bragging rights but it is also the region opener for both teams.
Both schools want to win region titles but bragging rights for some fans may be even more important.
The coaches agree this game is unlike any other in high school football.
Valdosta head coach Rance Gillespie said. "It is a big time football atmosphere. There is a number of reasons for that. You have got a lot of tradition from both programs. You have got two quality football programs. It is a great rivalry."
Lowndes head coach Randy McPherson "these kids and fans they grew up together. They live in the same place basically. There is not a day that goes by that this game doesn't come up year round."
Lowndes has won seven straight from Valdosta.
Game time is 8:00 p.m. at Martin Stadium and the game is back on national television on ESPNU.
