Deputy's cruiser catches fire

Deputy Matthew Bannister was doing a traffic stop near Wild Adventures on Clyattville Road.

He talked to the man driving the stopped car then walked over to the passenger side to talk to the woman.

That's when he turned and saw his patrol car on fire. He then tried to move the car but it wouldn't start, but he did save his computer and some equipment.

He and two other deputies tried to extinguish the fire they got it under control when firefighters arrived.

The sheriff thinks it's the heat from the catalytic converter that sparked the fire. The car is a total loss.
