VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - When the clock hit zero in the fourth quarter Saturday night in Monticello, Arkansas, an alarm clock sounded for the Valdosta State football team.
The Blazers got a wakeup call in their 29-3 loss at Arkansas-Monticello.
A loss that dropped the previously 4th ranked VSU football team out of the top ten in the Division II polls.
Head coach David Dean believes his squad had gotten too complacent with the unbeaten record and high ranking.
It showed in the play with penalties, turnovers and other mistakes.
Judging by the way the team has practiced this week, coach Dean believes the wake up call for his team came at the right time heading into their final non-conference game of the season at Ouachita Baptist.
David Dean said. "if you are going to get a wake up call, you want to get it in the middle of the season. Hopefully, this is ours. We still have a tough schedule ahead of us. Our main focus right now is just to get better each week. It starts this week against Ouachita."
Valdosta State has won 10 of 11 games against Ouachita Baptist.
The one loss came in their last visit to Arkadelphia in 2009.
Game time is 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
