FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) - The Fitzgerald High football team has faced a lot of adversity this season with the lost of senior D.J Searcy but that hasn't stopped the Purple Hurricanes on the football field.
The Purple Hurricanes are the WALB Team of the Week for their 21-14 win over Cook High last week.
Colony Bank representative Mike Smith was there to present head coach Robby Pruitt and his team with the plaque and football prior to Tuesday's practice.
The win was the Cane's 5th in a row and 2nd straight region 1-AA win.
Coach Pruitt says he's proud of how his team has responded with all they've been through.
Robby Pruitt said. "The tragedy we've had with D.J its been a rough year but our guys have done an awesome job of fighting through it and I'm just proud of them. That was a big win for us and I'm proud of our kids."
Running back Tolerance Shepherd said. "We just wanted to win because we lost to them last year. We lost pretty bad to them last year. We just wanted to set the tone for this year and go out and win."
Fitzgerald faces a big road test Friday night at Early County.
