Stars and Stripes Baseball comes to Georgia

Posted: Updated:

SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) - Worth County coach Will Smith is wanting some of south Georgia's top players to ring in the New Year playing baseball in Orlando.

Smith will coach one of the Georgia teams at the Stars and Stripes Baseball USSA world series in Orlando from December 27through January 2nd.

Players from 9 thru 18 are eligible to tryout for this unique tournament that Smith says will not interfere with travel ball teams.

Smith says the tryouts will be conducted by college coaches and major league scouts.

And players who do not make the teams will be given a list of areas to work on with the goal of improving their game.

Will Smith said. "Once you make that team you go down to Orlando team to play. If you don't make team, you will get their professional evaluation. That will show the areas where you are strong at. The areas you are weak. We will be able to expound on that as you go throughout your career."

There is a tryout scheduled for Saturday at Lee County High School.

Cost is $115.

Ages 9-12 will tryout starting at 9:00 a.m. and 12-18 age group will tryout starting at 1:30 p.m..
