
Former Monroe standout and now Albany State defensive back Larry Whitfield has been named the SIAC defensive player of the week and newcomer of the week. Whitfield led the ASU "Dirty Blue" defense with 17 total tackles, 10 solo with 2 for a loss in the Rams big 57-31 win over Kentucky State in the Circle City Classic on Saturday. He also had a 68-yard fumble return for a touchdown.
The ASU freshman played both sides of the ball at Monroe and holds the school record for sacks in addition to being a region champ in the triple jump.
