What if there was one prescription that could prevent and treat dozens of diseases?
Well there just might be, it is exercising.
The Dougherty County Medical Society is sponsoring the "Exercise is Medicine" initiative.
It focuses on encouraging physicians to include exercise when designing treatment plans for patients.
"Exercise is Medicine" promotes exercise and physical activity to prevent and treat diseases.
"Type two diabetes, has an affect on cancer, especially colon and breast cancer, it has an affect on hypertension, it can help prevent dementia, such as Alzheimer, so for such a broad swath of diseases it can either prevent or treat, that if there was a single pill that could be prescribed for all of the things that exercise gives you it would be the most widely prescribed pill in the world," says Dr. Adrian Hutber, American College of Sports Medicine V.P.
He recommends 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week.
