FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) -
A Fitzgerald insurance agent is charged with stealing nearly a half million dollars worth of premium money from customers.
Jeff Hair is charged with 98 counts of insurance fraud and one count of theft. Investigators say Hair pocketed money customers paid for their insurance premiums.
The investigation revealed that Fitzgerald Utilities had been given counterfeit insurance policies signed by Jeff Hair since 2002 and has been without insurance on their surplus lines since 2001.
The utilities department had paid Hair $387,000 over the last nine years.
The investigation showed other business, personal, and USDA policies were counterfeit and that Jeff Hair kept the policy payments instead of sending them to the insurance companies he represented.
