Real "Dolphin Tale" expert comes to Albany

Kevin Carroll, the real-life Prosthetic practitioner portrayed by Morgan Freeman in new "Dolphin Tale" movie, in town to educate amputees.

People who use prosthetics can visit Carroll at Hanger Prosthetics & Orthotics, at 607 North Jefferson Street.

Carroll is an American Board Certified prosthetist with more than 30 years experience as a practicing clinician, visionary researcher, and educator He trains clinicians and prosthetic users who work with the most challenging amputation cases.

He has appeared on Dateline, 20/20, CBS Early Show, NBC Nightly News, ABC's Good Morning America, and the Discovery Channel.

Carroll will be in town to educate local amputees; showing them what's available with prosthetic technology and what's on the horizon.,

When not taking care of his human patients, Carroll volunteers weekends to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium where he works with 'Winter' the dolphin alongside his colleague Dan Strzempka, fellow co-developer of Winter's prosthetic tale.

Winter was caught in a crab trap near Cape Canaveral in December 2005, when she was just 18-months-old.  Winter became the first dolphin to have her entire tail fluke replaced with a prosthetic device.

Morgan Freeman will portray the prosthetic work completed by Carroll and Strzempka.  Ashley Judd, Kris Kristopherson, and Harry Connick, Jr. also have roles in the movie.
