A school bus driver kicks off her campaign for a vacant Albany city commission seat.

Supporters joined Cheryl Calhoun for a kickoff event, Friday on Clark Avenue.

Calhoun is a Dougherty County school bus driver and a pastor at New Covenant church.

She's running in the special election to fill the Ward 2 seat vacated when Dorothy Hubbard qualified to run for mayor.

"When you have a love for people and you love your community, that qualifies you. Even though I'm just a school bus driver and I love people, I think I'm the best person for the job because I'm a woman of action and I believe in doing things and not just talking about them," said Ward 2 Candidate Cheryl Calhoun.

Calhoun is running against Ivey Hines and Melissa Strother in the November election.
