Lowndes and Ware growing rivalry

Posted: Updated:

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - It seems every week in the high school football season we are previewing a big rivalry that has been around for years.

There is one modern day rivalry that is growing very fast in south Georgia.

Another chapter will be written Friday night when Lowndes hosts Ware County.

The AAAA Gators are one of a few teams not in the Vikings region that look forward to playing Lowndes.

Last year's game was won by the Vikings on a field goal.

Ware heads to the concrete palace unbeaten while the Vikings are 4-1.

Lowndes head coach Randy McPherson knows his young team faces a challenge from a veteran Ware County squad.

Lowndes head coach Randy McPherson said. "They have got a great defense. We need to do a good job of trying to block them. Just executing you know. Play great defense and special teams. Whatever happens, happens."

Ware County's last win at Lowndes was 11 years ago.

Game time is 8:00 p.m. at Martin Stadium and you can watch highlights Friday night at 11:00 p.m. on the Locker Room Report at WALB News 10.
