The GBI says a 29-year old Moultrie man was shot in the chest in his own backyard.
Investigators say Billy Hewitt was shot behind his house on 29th Avenue just after midnight.
After he was shot, Hewitt ran across the street and banged on a neighbor's window for help.
The neighbor called 911 and Hewitt was rushed to the hospital, but he didn't survive.
Hewitt, who lived alone, was an employee at National Beef Company in Moultrie.
Police don't yet know who killed him or why.
