ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia has set an execution window for a condemned Albany man one day after Troy Davis was put to death. Georgia Attorney General's spokeswoman Lauren Kane said Thursday that a judge has signed a warrant for Marcus Ray Johnson's execution.

Johnson was convicted of the 1994 Dougherty County slaying of Angela Sizemore. Her body was found in her truck with 41 stab wounds hours after the two were seen leaving an Albany bar together.

He has said in appeals that his trial lawyers were ineffective because they failed to bring up evidence of his childhood struggles, including his father's abandonment of him when he was 15.

Troy Davis was executed late Wednesday. Davis' claims of innocence had drawn worldwide attention.

Here is the News Release from the GA Department of Corrections-

Forsyth –The Dougherty County Superior Court has ordered the execution of convicted murderer Marcus Ray Johnson. Johnson was convicted for the 1994 murder of Angela Sizemore. If executed, he will be the 30th inmate put to death by lethal injection.

The Court ordered the Department to carry out the execution on a date between October 5, 2011 and October 12, 2011. Commissioner Brian Owens has set the date for October 5, 2011 at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson at 7:00 p.m.

The Department of Corrections is the fifth largest prison system in the United States and is responsible for supervising nearly 60,000 state prisoners and over 150,000 probationers.
