Southwest Georgia and Metro Albany's unemployment rate rises

    The Albany Police Depart is engaged in a recruitment campaign to get its officer corps up to full strength. APD is budgeted for 214 officers, and right now is about 20 officers short of that level, and

Southwest Georgia and Metro Albany's unemployment rates for the month of August have both risen. 

Southwest Georgia's unemployment rate increased to 10.4 percent in August, up one-tenth of a percentage point from 10.3 in July.

Metro Albany's unemployment rate increased to10.8 percent in August, up one-tenth of a percentage point from 10.7 in July.

Meanwhile, Georgia's unemployment rate rose to 10.2 percent in August, up one-tenth of a percentage point from 10.1 in July.

August marked the 49th consecutive month Georgia has exceeded the national unemployment rate, which is currently 9.1 percent.
