A state trooper shot a man Tuesday morning after a high speed chase in Lanier County.

This is the car the suspect was driving.

A trooper tried to pull over Travis O'Neal Spikes for a window tint violation.

Spikes didn't stop and instead sped off on Georgia 31.

He jumped out of his car on Shiner Road then pointed a shotgun at troopers who were running toward him.

One of the troopers shot him twice, in the arm and leg.

"One of the troopers gave verbal commands for the subject to drop the weapon," said Cpl. Oscar Fernandez. "The subject refused and turned in the direction of the troopers with a weapon at hand and the trooper fired several shots."

Spikes is hospitalized.

Investigators says he had stolen items in the car and could be responsible for burglaries in the area.

The trooper who fired the shots Trooper First Class James Green is on administrative leave with pay.
