THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - One Thomas County man is in jail, another remains in the hospital after a weekend shooting.

34-year-old Cornelius Mitchell is accused of shooting 25-year-old James Barnes Sunday night. Police say the two men were arguing at this house on Johnson Street.

They say Mitchell went to his house, got a gun, came back, and tried to force his way into Barnes' home. "Another altercation occurred. This time Mr. Barnes was struck twice, once in the leg and once in the foot by a handgun that was fired by Mr. Mitchell," said Chief Investigator Lt. Tim Watkins.

Barnes had surgery Monday and is expected to be released from Archbold Memorial Hospital Wednesday.

Mitchell is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
