New officers join the police force

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - More officers are hitting the streets hoping to catch those copper thieves and other offenders.

Eight new APD officers were pinned after going through rigorous mental and physical training at the police Academy.

Family and friends came to support the men and women at the law enforcement center.

One young officer from Jacksonville, Florida told us he's always wanted to serve others as a police officer.

"Policing is something I've always wanted to do," APD Officer, Tim Hogg. "I had an opportunity to come to Albany. I'm excited and I can't wait to get out there tomorrow."

Officer Hogg will start Tuesday. He'll go on patrol with three different officers for four weeks each, then he'll be on his own.
