After a long week of build up it was finally time to renew the rivalry as Albany St. and Valdosta St. locked horns for the first time in 4 years. Much of Blazer nation made the trip north and filled out the visitor side of the Albany St. Coliseum. The Rams fans also packed the home side as well as the hills surrounding the bleachers.
In the first quarter, it was VSU feeding off its fans early. Austen Roberts found Quin Roberson over the middle on the team's first drive to take the 7-0 lead. The Blazers followed it up with a 15 yard run by David Bailey on its next possession giving the visitors the 14-0 advantage.
The Rams, however, responded when Nathan Hoyte punched one in from a few yards out in the 2nd quarter. The extra point was no good, 14-6 VSU. After a few Blazer field goals, ASU's Stanley Jennings hooked up with Darius Nelson on a play action roll out pulling the Rams within 8 going into halftime. ASU fought back in the 3rd and 4th quarters tying the game with around 2 minutes left.
VSU's Daniel Anderson then nailed a short field goal giving the Blazers the lead at 30-27. The Rams had a chance to go for the tie or win with less than a minute left. That's when a long pass by Jennings with intercepted by Harrison Dreiling. 30-27 was the final. ASU is now 2-1 and will open up SIAC play next week at Miles College. VSU improves to 3-0 and will host Southern Arkansas
