VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Some students and concerned citizens are out in front of  Valdosta State University calling for a new trial for convicted Savannah cop killer Troy Davis.

Davis is set to be executed next week. Supporters say they are going to ask the governor for help.

AP reports that Davis supporters plan to gather in downtown Atlanta for a march.

Amnesty International and the NAACP are organizing the rally for Troy Davis on Friday from Woodruff Park to Ebenezer Baptist Church. Davis is set to be put to death on Wednesday for the 1989 killing of Officer Mark MacPhail.

The groups claim Georgia is set to put an innocent man to death, citing eyewitnesses who claim another man killed MacPhail.

Prosecutors say there's no doubt they charged the right person with the crime, and courts have repeatedly upheld his conviction.

The Rev. Al Sharpton and others are set to speak at the event.
