The Albany State Rams didn't let Wingate ruin its home opener. The Rams beat Wingate 49-28 moving the team to 2-0 on the year. Wingate was in search of its 1st win after losing an over time thriller to Valdosta St. The Rams came out fresh including quarterback Stanley Jennings who found Michael Nelson on the left side for a big gain down to the 4 yard line. Nelson stretched the ball to the end zone but came up short. On the next play, Luther Edwards punched it in from a yard out to give the Rams the 7-0 lead.
In the 2nd quarter, Jennings went up top to Ronnie Tubbs who dove out for a diving catch managing to keep his toes in bounce for the reception. Nathan Hoyte scored on a short pitch a few plays later giving ASU the 14-0 lead. The Rams' offense showed up big in the 3rd quarter and 4th quarters as ASU grabbed a 49-14 lead. ASU called of the dogs and Wingate added two late scores.
Rams won it 49-28 and now await a huge match up against Valdosta State at the ASU Coliseum on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
