The Lee County Sheriff's Department is now working with the Albany Crime stoppers. The Lee County Sheriff's Department asked to join the Albany Crime-stoppers program. The Sheriff's Department believes it will be a helpful tool in closing some cases.
Just six months after it opened, a downtown business has already closed. But a replacement is in the works.
The Downtown General Store moved out of its North Washington Street location. A new sports bar called 'Booters' is moving in.
Owners are constructing a front bar area and plan for as many as five flat screens on either side of the bar to show various sporting events.
They say with so many sports fans in south Georgia, there's a demand for this type of bar and for night life in downtown Albany.
"Conventions come to town and what to have someplace the clients can go after hours and a lot of the restaurants are going to start staying open at night on the weekends so we're trying to get a nightlife going in downtown Albany," said Booters co-owner Donna Driskell.
Booters plans to offer MillerCoors products as well as some microbrews. Their menu will include some items centering around local businesses including Mars Chocolates.
Owners say they'll also explain their unusual name at their grand opening.
