Attorney general visits Valdosta

Georgia's attorney general says the state's sunshine laws need clarity.

Sam Olens spoke to Kiwanis Club members in Valdosta Friday.

He says open records and open meetings laws need to be clearer and minutes should be kept at closed executive sessions.

He says the public needs to know as much as possible about the decisions elected officials make.

Olens is working on a bill that would impose larger fines when state, city, or county officials don't abide by the laws.

"So as I tell folks, if you go to a county or city meeting or state meeting and they cover 20 items in 15 minutes then you know you weren't at the real meeting," said Olens.

Olens plans to attend Friday's Lowndes High football game.
