Smallcakes in Albany welcomed Phillip Phillips home with a sweet treat ahead of a benefit concert.
The owners of a Dougherty County convenience store are glad they decided to close early last night, just moments before a drunk driver crashed into their gas pumps.
And it was all caught on surveillance video.
You see the headlights of a Ford Truck as it crosses Newton Road just after 9:30.
It runs through a ditch and slams into a pump outside the Grab and Go Food Mart.
Instantly the truck is engulfed in flames.
Since the pumps were turned off they did not burn.
A full minute after the truck went up in flames, you can see 61-year old John Shaw get out and walk away unhurt.
The pump was destroyed, but store owners know it could have been much worse.
Store owner Khushboo Patel said "If we were still here while this incident it would be a big disaster." It would have spread? "Spread into the entire tank and it would be a big blast."
Today the scorched and crumpled pump is sitting by the store.
It and the canopy over the gas pumps were burned and will have to be replaced.
Shaw is charged with D-U-I and failure to stop at a stop sign.
