Westover tries to tackle Bainbridge option

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An early season showdown of unbeaten teams highlights this week's high school football schedule.

That showdown takes place here in Albany with Westover hosting Bainbridge.

The Patriots defense has allowed just two touchdowns in their first two games.

Bainbridge brings head coach Ed Pilcher's split option veer offense to Hugh Mills Stadium.

The veer is not an easy offense to defend.

Especially when you have just four days of practice.

Westover coach Octavia Jones says another problem is the scout team version of the veer doesn't come close to duplicating the real thing.

Octavia Jones said. "It is very hard for our scout team to simulate that. So, a lot of times during the week we practice without a ball. Just make sure our guys are being disciplined. Make sure we are doing our assignments each and every time."

Ed Pilcher said. "That 74 (Chris Jackson) now he is a player. That middle linebacker is a player. They have got a lot of players on that side of the ball that can well to the ball too. They are a much better team. They are much better."

Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Hugh Mills Stadium.

Watch the highlights on the Locker Room Report at 11:00 p.m. on WALB NBC and WALB ABC.
