Family, friends remember ASU student

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - It was an emotional night at Albany State University as people honored a student who was killed in a car crash this week.

Relatives and friends lit candles in honor of 20-year old Johnathan Newberry.

He and two friends were killed in Marianna, Florida Monday afternoon when their car crossed the center line and hit an ambulance head on.

Dozens of people, including Newberry's mother, filled Sanford Hall for a service then lit candles outside in his memory.

"This event shows we are all family and we're here for each other," said classmate, Elisha Ravenna. "They're in pain. We're in pain as well. They hurt, and we hurt too. We just want them to know we're there for them and Jonathan was part of our family."

Newberry was active in ROTC at ASU. He went to Westover High School with the other three men in the car.

19-year old Jevontay Jordan and 20-year old Roc Greene also died in the crash.
