ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A well-known author, who's also autistic, brought her empowering message to Albany Thursday night.
Temple Grandin signed books before she spoke at the Municipal auditorium. She stressed the importance of detecting autism and addressing it early in a child's life.
"I can't emphasize enough the importance of early education," said Grandin. "If you have a two-year old who isn't talking, sitting and rocking, doing a lot of odd behavior, the worst thing you can do it to do nothing."
Grandin says it's important to interact with children to recognize their strengths and weaknesses, and parents of autistic children need to build on those strengths.
Phoebe Putney Hospital brought Grandin to town as part of its 100th anniversary celebration.
