So. GA holds 9/11 Ceremonies

Albany -  On Friday, Sept. 9, the Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany is scheduled to hold two special events:

At 7:00 a.m., the MCLB will host its 25th annual POW/MIA Recognition Breakfast.

Then at 10:00 a.m., a 9/11 10th anniversary commemorative ceremony will be held.

Lee County will hold a Community Remembrance and Prayer Service on Sunday, 09/11/2011, at the T. Page Tharp Building at 102 Starksville Ave North, in Leesburg.

Thomasville-  For individuals looking for a meaningful way to mark the day, Southeastern Community Blood Center (SCBC) is holding a commemorative blood drive.  This drive offers individuals a way to participate in a life saving deed to honor the memory of those who were lost and who put their lives on the line to save others. 

Those who give blood will receive a commemorative REMEMBER 9 ELEVEN T-shirt. 

All SCBC centers will be open on Sunday, 9/11/11, from noon to 5.  The Thomasville, GA center is at Pinetree and Remington.  Bloodmobiles will also be parked at Valdosta First United Methodist, in Valdosta, from 9:30am to 2pm and at Ryans Steakhouse in Thomasville, from 10am - 2pm.

Albany -  Covenant Presbyterian Church is hosting a 911 memorial service at 10:00AM Sunday.

St. Patrick's Episcopal Church will have a 9/11 memorial service at 10:30AM.

Albany First Baptist Church at 145 Oakland Parkway, Leesburg, will host an evening of patriotic & sacred music honoring the area's first responders at 6:00PM. Call 229-883-8000. 

First Presbyterian Church choir will be honoring those who served and those who died on 9/11 during the 11 A.M. service with a special titled "Count the Cost". Refreshments will be served following the service.   

 Cordele - The City of Cordele and Crisp County are jointly sponsoring a community wide 9/11 commemorative ceremony on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at 3:00 p.m.,  at the Crisp County Middle School Auditorium. 

All Local First Responders will be honored during this 10th Anniversary Ceremony.  During this remembrance ceremony a patriotic wreath will be placed, along with prayers, words of inspiration and appreciation from various pastors.  Also the CCHS Chorus will render song tributes accompanied by the CCHS Band and the CCHS JROTC will post and retire the Colors.

 Bainbridge -  Bainbridge College (BC) will have two ceremonies Sept. 12 as a Memorial Tribute for the 10th Anniversary of 9-11. Sponsored by the Student Government Association, these will take place in the Student Wellness Center gymnasium.

The 10 a.m. session will include the presentation of colors by Bainbridge High School Junior ROTC, words from BC President Richard Carvajal, other BC personnel and students, as well as music and video presentations, and a moment of silence.

The evening program, which will include candle lighting, is to start at 7 p.m. Featured speakers will include Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Rodney Carr and Dr. Ray Chambers, who is BC Chair Emeritus of the Arts and Sciences Division and Professor Emeritus of Political Science.
