Special election called to fill a Hubbard’s seat

Posted: Updated:

Albany City Commissioners officially asked the Dougherty County Board of Elections to have a special election to fill a vacant commissioner's seat.

Commissioner Dorothy Hubbard had to resign when she qualified to run for mayor.

The board of elections will discuss the issue Wednesday afternoon.

It likely will be held November 8th, the same day as the General Election.

"The city commission this morning had to take action related to ward 2 and the seat that has been held by Dorothy Hubbard. When she qualified to run for mayor that seat became vacant and we asked the election board to set a new election for this fall so that someone can qualify for that seat and fill that seat," said Assistant City Manager Wes Smith.

Qualifying will likely be September 14th through 15th.

Hubbard is up against BJ Fletcher, John White, and Jesse Massey in the mayor's race.
