Use caution when grilling

Posted: Updated:

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Weather permitting, many folks will be lighting up those grills Monday. If you do decide to barbeque, it's important to keep a few things in mind.

First and foremost, keep children and pets away from the grill when it's in use. Make sure you're cooking in a well-ventilated area.

Place the grill a safe distance from lawn games, play areas, and foot traffic. "Be careful again with your barbeque grills. Again don't throw any gasoline, kerosene on any open flame. You will get burnt," said Paramedic Training Officer Tony Maples.

When putting out the fire, place the cover on and close all the vents. If using coals, make sure to let them burn out completely.

If you must dispose of the coals before they've cooled, remove them individually with long-handled tongs.
