Bearcats ready to face Syrupmakers

CAIRO, GA (WALB) - It is week two in the high school football season.

Several big games with bragging rights.

The biggest though is in Cairo.

The Syrupmakers are hosting their neighbors to the west in Bainbridge.

This border war turned up a notch this summer when assistant coach Steven Bench left the Bearcats to join the Cairo staff and with him came his son quarterback Steven Bench.

Both head coaches do not want Bench's transfer to be the focus point in tonight's game.

Emotions though will likely be high on both sidelines and the coaches want to make sure that doesn't impact execution.

Game time is 7:30 Friday in Cairo.

Bainbridge head coach Ed Pilcher said. "You are going to be fired up. You are going to be ready to play. Like you mentioned we have to make sure our emotions don't get in the way of our assignments and our focus on what we are supposed to be doing."

Cairo head coach Tom Fallaw said. "This is another Friday night game that in the overall scheme of things it really doesn't make that much difference. It is not one win or lose that is going to keep us from making a run at the playoffs and getting to the state championship."
