Thomas Harold Duncan, Jr., of Coolidge, has been arrested for the Monday hit-and-run of Priscilla Carter on Highway 33, north of Sylvester.

Worth Co. Sheriff Freddie Tompkins said that citizens' tips were instrumental in identifying Duncan as the driver of the white van that struck Carter.  Deputies tracked the van down in Thomasville Thursday.

The 48-year-old Duncan was not at his residence when deputies went to arrest him, and Tompkins said he turned himself in at the Worth Co. jail this morning.

Duncan told the sheriff that he was dozing at the wheel, and thought that he hit a deer, so he kept going.

"Well, basically what he told me was he knew that he hit something but he thought it was a deer. It was early morning hours and basically he said he kind of dozed off," Tompkins said.

He is being charged with a Felony for leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

He posted a $5,000 bond and was released.
