A south Georgia sheriff who spent three nights in jail is now free.
Terrell County Sheriff John Bowens was released from the Dougherty County Jail shortly after 5:00 Thursday afternoon.
He was sentenced to five days in jail for contempt after ignoring a judge's order to bring inmates to court last year. Bowens claimed he didn't have enough staff to transport the inmates safely.
His sentence was scheduled to run through Friday afternoon, but he was released one day early for good behavior.
