The Albany Humane Society is getting a makeover thanks to some help from a national humanitarian group and national dog food company.
An Albany City Commission vacated her seat Tuesday to run for mayor.
Dorothy Hubbard officially qualified for the mayor's race.
About 20 supporters joined her today as she made the announcement.
According to Georgia law, Hubbard must immediately step down from her Ward 2 seat.
She says she has big plans as mayor.
"I will work with all citizens, businesses and elected officials and fellow leaders to serve with passion and commitment. My goal is to rebrand Albany," said Albany Mayor Candidate Dorothy Hubbard.
The city commission will meet next Tuesday and likely will ask the Dougherty County Board of Elections to call a special election to fill Hubbard's city commission seat.
Businesswoman BJ Fletcher has also qualified to run for mayor.
