COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - About 100 soldiers are scheduled to return to Fort Benning in Georgia after a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan. The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports (http://bit.ly/17WfBX4) that
About 100 soldiers are scheduled to return to Fort Benning in Georgia after a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan. The unit is made up of soldiers assigned at Fort Benning and medical personnel from throughout the Army.

An alert police officer likely prevented a Dougherty County convenience store from being burglarized.

Joseph Roaten, 39, was caught behind the Grab and Go Gas station on Newton Road around one Sunday morning.

A Dougherty County police officer caught Roaten with a flashlight, hammer, large metal wire cutter, sledge hammer, and a prybar. He was spotted lurking around after the store was closed.

Store owner, Khushboo Patel says, "They are doing what they are supposed to do by keeping the thugs out of the street, and I hope to see more of these people going to jail."

The store believes that the continuous watch by police will help cut down on crime drastically. Roaten was charged loitering and prowling.
