Albany and Dougherty High are two teams that had rather forgetful seasons last year but the Indians and Trojans reloaded this summer and had full expectations of turning things around in 2011.
It was Albany High making a statement with a 39-7 blow out at Hugh Mills at Saturday night. Indians' QB Emmanuel Byrd was in mid season form hooking up with Jeconiah Jackson on two first half touchdowns. Byrd also scored on a play action bootleg to make it a 32-0 game in the 2nd quarter. Dougherty struggled for most of the 1st half with botched punts and fumbles.
Albany will host Westover next Saturday. Dougherty will host Mitchell County next Friday. Both games will be at Hugh Mills Stadium.
In GISA action Randolph Southern beats up on Central Fellowship 41-0.
