VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Lowndes County District Attorney's office confirms Mayor John Fretti entered a guilty plea of providing false statements this morning in Lowndes County Superior Court. He'll be sentenced September 7.

Valdosta businessman Roy Taylor accused Mayor John Fretti of having his travel expenses paid by two sources. The Mayor told us previously the accusations are politically driven.

Valdosta's citizens ethics review board ruled earlier this month that Mayor Fretti did not violate any city ordinance or code of conduct related to travel expenses.

Fretti announced two weeks ago that he would not seek reelection.
