ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The high school football season will kick into full gear this weekend in Georgia.
The Westover Patriots will open the season on the road at defending region one-a champion Mitchell County.
The Eagles may be in Class A but the AAA Patriots know they are talented team loaded with seniors.
Westover had an impressive scrimmage win at Thomasvile two weeks ago.
It may have been a scrimmage game but head coach Octavia Jones says it has given a big mental boost to his team.
Octavia Jones said. "We are very much feeling upbeat. We know Mitchell County is going to come play us hard. They have beat us the last two years. They are not going to be afraid. They are not going to back down. We just need to make sure we go in and do what we need to do to be successful."
Westover plays at Mitchell County Friday night.
Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Centennial Stadium.
